Biographical Text

Ida Bishop Lewelling was the wife of Kansas' first Populist governor. She was involved with various social reform causes. Lewelling was very socially popular, joining a number of clubs, such as the Current History Club. Lewelling died in 1907.

Bishop married Lorenzo D. Lewelling in 1885. Lewelling had two daughters from a previous marriage: Jesse and Louise. Bishop gave birth to one daughter, Ruth.
