My dear Miss Addams:
On your return from Europe in 1915, a confidential copy of your interviews with the European foreign ministers was sent to me. In the pile of letters and papers since accumulated, I have lost track of it. I am now busy with my autobiography, and may like to quote from this as a whole or in part. Can you spare or lend a duplicate copy?
I take this opportunity to wish you another useful and hopeful New Year. I cannot use the word merry when I think of the shape in which we have left Europe. Hoover says that human life is worth three cents on the Eastern frontier, three dollars on the Western.
Very truly yours,
