Dear Miss Manus,
Many thanks for your kind letter of September 22, received today.
About the account books it makes no difference to me, and we will begin a fresh set. I suppose you will write to Miss Addams and get her permission ↑to keep the books↓ as a matter of form, since as a matter of business it is of course irregular not to have all the original books together in the hands of the treasurer.
You say that you will be shortly sending round the accounts. Does that mean that you will be winding them up definitively now? and if so can you yet tell about what the balance will be roughly speaking, and when we ought to expect to receive it here in Geneva?
Yours with thanks for all your trouble,
Emily Balch [signed]
