Dear Miss Addams:
"Many thanks for your letter about Mr. Levinson. I have no doubt whatever myself of his reasonableness and high qualities as first urged upon us by Professor Dewey. Unfortunately, however, the group in Chicago, described as the City Club group, who are already at work on our platform object to Mr. Levinson, probably for the same reason that many other good peoples are outlawed by the stand-patriots. This condition seems to make it impossible for us to ask him to take such leadership as we planned when Professor Dewey's telegram arrived."
Norman Hapgood.
