Biographical Text

Harlow Niles Higginbotham was a businessman whose career began with Cooley, Farwell & Co., and he later worked with the Marshall Field Company and then the Northern Trust Company, of which he became Director. He was the president of the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. He was also a veteran of the Civil War. Higginbotham was very involved in civic activities and philanthropy.

Higginbotham married Rachel Deborah Davison in 1865. They had six children together, two of which died as infants. In 1917, Higginbotham died in 1919 when he was involved in an automobile accident.
