William W. Thompson to Jane Addams, April 6, 1917

Miss Jane Addams
Hull House, Chicago -- Ill.

Dear Miss:

Mr W. J. Bryan's "Commoner" give me an informal acquaintance with you. I admire a lover of peace and a hater of war, let the same be male for female. I much doubt whether ever existed a good excuse for war. Am doing what I can for the cause of peace, but owing to the general influence of the jingo press, am really accomplishing very little. Enclosed find a short poem calculated to offset the intended insults offered to the pacifist reader by the jingo press.

There may be Publications in your city that could use it. If published would appreciate a copy of the issue.

Fraternally, Wm. W. Thompson
