THE WOMAN'S PEACE PARTY
Dear Miss Addams:
I wired you a glad assent to my name being used on that fine telegram to the President, last evening. I gave the boy the money for it, and I hope he did not fail to get the telegram to you prepaid. Mrs. Thomas did not get her telegram until this morning as she has been organizing in Delaware. She is wiring you to use her name also. She is doing wonderful work here.
If hostilities actually break out what would you think of our wiring the President urging that the war be made purely a police war, carried on only on the high seas, with only such destruction of the enemy's ships as the protection of our commerce seems to demand, and with no alliances with other than <with> the group of nations at present neutral?
I am sending carbons of this to Mrs. Mead, Mrs. Spencer, and Mrs. Thomas.
Affectionately yours,
Alice Thacher Post [signed]
