My dear Mrs. Lloyd:
I was very glad indeed to see your brother's letter which I am returning with this.
Miss Balch and I went to Detroit together and had a very satisfactory interview with Mr. and Mrs. Ford which took place at Mrs. Holt's house where they came to meet us. Mr. Ford was there for an hour and a half and Mrs. Ford the entire morning.
There are certain things about the conference which he will not discuss and I think he is quite wise in his reticence, but there is no doubt in my mind that he means to continue to stand behind it. Miss Balch, as you know, sailed on Saturday and saw a lot of people in New York before she left. She is quite hopeful that Mr. Kirchwey will go later. I am sending [page 2] this off somewhat hurriedly now and will write you again. I am so glad that you are away from all the turmoil, and I cannot tell you how relieved we all are that your case came out in such a satisfactory way. Please write me when you can.
Affectionately yours,
Jane Addams [signed]
