OFFICE OF COMMISSIONER OF IMMIGRATION
ELLIS ISLAND, NEW YORK HARBOR, N.Y.

Miss Jane Addams,
Bar Harbor, Maine.
My dear Miss Addams:
This is merely a kind of "God bless you" letter, to tell you that I think about you a great many times and inquire about you a great many times, and hope that you are well and happy. I feel as though I had missed something when I don't see you or hear from you or read something that you have said for any great length of time; and I cannot tell you how many times I have thought of you and inquired about you during the last six months. I hope you realize, but of course you don't, how many millions of people in the United States have a kind of personal affection for you that will never be expressed.
Very affectionately yours,
Frederic C. Howe [signed]
